Our aims, vision and ethos are all centred around a creative environment that nurtures skills beyond the classroom, creating well rounded students that can apply these skills in all areas of academic and real life situations. Academic excellence is encouraged to facilitate independent students that are creative thinkers, problem solvers and global citizens. At Spliced we will endeavour to develop our own education platform for an online global community.

Our Main Aims

ACTIVE ART

Active Art is a new subject, created to use art making as a framework that enhances and nurtures a large variety of skills, which can be used beyond academics. Active Art encourages students to become independent creative thinkers and problem solvers. The skills learnt can also assist students in other academic subjects.

Advantages for students in the Active Art program:

Active Art offers a large variety of skills beyond the traditional art subject. Students can develop skills in creative ways with a flexible program that is able to adjust to their needs when required. They are able to study from anywhere around the world and interact with students from many different nations. Students learn a variety of art making techniques and how the creative process works. They get a personal touch and individual attention. By including practical skills they are able to develop independently. The skills learnt can enhance students abilities in other academic areas. Students are engaged with spiral learning, in other words their academic progress expands and develops from previous learning.

Examples of the kind of skills and concepts that are inserted into lessons, tasks and activities, in various stages, are as follows:

Relationship with other subjects and careers

It is important to note that Active Art links other subject skills in order to enhance the learning experience and the application of the skills learnt into other subjects. Part of the program for students to explore their interests and later link them to future study or careers. These are indicated in the Advanced and Future programs. Active Art Future is specifically created to advance personal interests, skills and university portfolios.

Groups and duration of Active Art courses:

Lessons are done online for one hour a week. For Active Art Future students this will increase to twice a week. This is further supported with Google classroom and individual/group whats app communication, where required. The course in each group lasts two years in order to advance to the next level. The age groups are brought together to mix the developmentals skills and allow for peer learning to take place.

The Active Art Courses:

Junior (Grade 4 & 5)

An introduction into art and art making. Students will learn how to explore the artmaking process and express themselves. In addition they will be introduced to the concept of self-expression and develop some visual literacy. There is a large element of ‘learn while you play’ as this forms the foundation for the spiral learning. Elements of other subjects are introduced into parts of their activities.

Key areas of learning:

Introduction to different art mediums; fine motor skills; self expression; sensory perception; visual literacy.

Senior (Grade 6 & 7)

Seniors will continue to develop art making skills and explore new art mediums, as well as combining them in some projects.Students will explore the ideas of different cultures, their environment and identity. There will be some theory added to learning activities. For example art history, research, presentation and symbolism. Students will start peer to peer learning and developing collaborative skills. Links to other subjects are expanded by including the application of skills learnt.

Key areas of learning:

Introduction to new art mediums and mixed media; collaborative skills; development of complex visual literacy, presentation skills, basic research skills, Art History; Communication skills; cultural diversity; collaboration with other subjects.

Advanced (Grade 8 &9)

The core of this program is to gain an advanced understanding of the creative process and how to conceptualize creative ideas. This will be further supported by developing research skills, art making skills and experimentation with different mediums. Peer lead activities and collaborative work will also be included as students will explore concepts related to popular culture. Students will also be encouraged to pursue personal creative interests within most projects. Activities will closely link other subjects and potential career paths.

Key areas of learning:

The creative process, conceptualising ideas, presentation skills; academic research skills, Art History; communication skills; career paths; further development of art making skills; collaboration; peer development.

Future (Grade 10, 11 &12)

The primary focus of this area of study is a concentrated core specialised program. The student will select one or two areas of concentrated study to focus on while following the prescribed briefs and activities. The program is divided into two main parts, a practical portfolio and a research essay. In the first year a direct guide to the creative process is given with related predetermined themes. From second year these themes are opened up to student selection. In the final year students concentrate on building a portfolio for academic or career requirements. The program is customised to enhance and develop well rounded students, who can better prepare for future studies or careers. Professional practice studies offer insight into students professions of interest.

Independent studies, portfolio works; essay based research; specialised art making skills, university applications, professional practice.
